How to tell it apart
Settings → ApplePie Settings shows the version string: APM1888 means the QCM6490 Rocket, APM1788 the QCM4490 Rocket Q. Android 14 means a Rocket Q on May 2025 or later firmware.

Identify your unit

The UX999 Rocket is ApplePie’s high-end box. UX999 and ApplePie are the same product line, sold internationally through the Exploter store, which lists the Rocket with a Qualcomm QCM6490 at 2.7 GHz, 8 GB of RAM, 5G, GPS, HDMI out and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Owners report 128 GB of storage.

Two boxes carry the Rocket name, and their firmware is not interchangeable:

  • Rocket (QCM6490), Android 13. Update file APM1888.zip. The CP-908 sold under another brand uses the same firmware.
  • Rocket Q (QCM4490), sold from spring 2025. Launched on Android 13 and moved to Android 14 with the 8 May 2025 build. Update file APM1788.zip.

To see which you have, open Settings → ApplePie Settings, where the maker says the version is shown; owners see a string such as APM1888_A13-EAU followed by the build date. The newer Rocket Plus (QCM6350, Android 16) is a different box and not covered here.

Engineering menu & codes

The Rocket has no numeric engineering code that owners have found. Its device-specific options sit in Settings → ApplePie Settings, at the bottom of the Settings list:

  • Audio equalization: on the September 2023 builds this should be off. If sound is wrong, owners toggled it on and off again with a restart in between.
  • Disable mic permissions and Voice control: decide which app the microphone and the steering-wheel voice button go to. See steering-wheel voice button.
  • XQ debug: debug options for the box’s XQ CarPlay component. Leave them alone unless support asks.
Settings → ApplePie Settings (labels vary by build). Reconstructed screen, labels may differ by firmware.

Codes for the other brands are collected in the engineering codes table.

Firmware

ApplePie updates are installed from a microSD card. The maker’s instructions: copy the downloaded file to the root of the card, without unzipping it and without creating a folder, and insert the card; the update starts on its own. The file must keep its original name. Builds are published by the maker and announced to owners; ask Exploter support ([email protected]) for a build you cannot find. This site does not host or link firmware files.

Accessories that matter

  • Y-cable and a strong charger. The 5G modem draws a lot of current. The seller told one Rocket Q owner to use a Y-cable with a separate 5 V / 3 A charger; another Rocket Q owner still had reboots on 5G and switched the network to LTE. Start with AI box keeps rebooting.
  • microSD card for updates, formatted FAT32.
  • SIM. If mobile data or the IMEI is missing, see AI box SIM card not working.

How to report a bug

The forum’s checklist for the ApplePie developers asks for:

  1. Car make and model.
  2. Year of the car.
  3. Head unit model, if you know it.
  4. Firmware version (from Settings → ApplePie Settings).
  5. A description of the problem with a photo or video.

Send it to Exploter support at [email protected], the address on the maker’s own update instructions. The general checklist is on how to report a bug.
