Can't Sign In to a Google Account on the Box
Google sign-in or Play Store says no connection or 'Something went wrong' on your AI box? Clear Play's cache, then fix the exclamation mark. TBox Ultra.

Clear the cache of Google Play Store and Google Play services, force-stop both and try again; that worked for three of the six owners who reported trying it. If the Wi-Fi or signal icon shows an exclamation mark, remove it first, because Google sign-in refuses to proceed on a network Android has flagged as having no internet. On a TBox Ultra, installing the 11 Dec 2025 build fixed sign-in for both owners who reported it.
Symptoms
- Google sign-in ends with 'Something went wrong' or 'Couldn't sign in' after you accept the terms
- Play Store asks you to sign in, then says there is no connection
- Navigation and music apps already installed work, but Google services do not
- An exclamation mark or 'No internet access' shows on the Wi-Fi or mobile icon
- The account appears in Settings, but Play Store will not load

Why it happens
Google sign-in and Google Play check that the network is really online before they do anything, and they trust Android’s own verdict on that. Android forms that verdict by requesting a test page from Google’s connectivity-check servers. When the request fails, the network gets an exclamation mark and the label “No internet access”, and sign-in fails with “no connection” or “Something went wrong” while other apps, and the browser, keep working. Several TBox Ultra builds from late 2025 showed this on many networks; the community FAQ names the 11 Dec 2025 build as the one that addressed it, and some owners saw the problem again after installing the 26 Dec 2025 build over it.
Without the mark, the usual cause is local: a corrupted Play Store or Play services cache, or a stale account token after an update. A firmware installed over an older one without a reset can leave both behind.
Fixes, ranked
Clear Play Store and Play services cache
- Safe
- Time: 5 minutes
- Worked for 3 of 6 reports
- Open Settings → Apps → See all apps → Google Play Store → Storage & cache and tap Clear cache.
- Go back one step and tap Force stop.
- Repeat for Google Play services.
- Open Play Store again and sign in.
- If it still fails, also tap Clear storage (data) for both apps and try once more.
Two ApplePie UX999 owners got Play Store working again this way, one after a firmware update had not helped. A TBox Ultra owner cleared the cache and data of the Google services and signed in without any reset. Three owners on late-2025 and early-2026 Ultra builds tried it without success. One helper warned the fix may need repeating whenever Play acts up again.
Remove the exclamation mark, then sign in
- Advanced
- Time: 15–30 minutes
- Worked for 2 of 3 reports
Warranty warning: this uses developer or engineering access. Follow the undo steps afterwards; some sellers refuse warranty claims on units with debugging left enabled.
- Check the Wi-Fi details: if they say “No internet access” or the icon has an exclamation mark, continue.
- Connect over ADB, by USB with code 142618 or over wireless debugging from a phone, as in enable ADB on an AI box.
- Run
adb shell settings put global captive_portal_mode 0. - Run
adb shell rebootas a separate command. - After the restart, sign in from Settings → Accounts → Add account → Google.
A TBox Ultra owner who had seen “No internet access” since the first day could not reach Google on Wi-Fi or SIM; once the check was off, sign-in worked. Another owner says that with a SIM he too had to remove the mark before Google and his other services worked. It did not help an owner who had no mark in the first place.
TBox Ultra: install the 11 Dec 2025 build
- Advanced
- Time: 20–30 minutes
- Worked for 2 of 2 reports
Warranty warning: this uses developer or engineering access. Follow the undo steps afterwards; some sellers refuse warranty claims on units with debugging left enabled.
- Open Settings → About and note the build date.
- If it is older than 11 Dec 2025, or sign-in broke after you installed the 26 Dec 2025 build, get the official 11 Dec 2025 build for your Ultra model from Carlinkit’s support channel. Online FOTA may claim you are up to date; install locally anyway.
- Copy the .zip to the microSD card as downloaded, without unpacking it.
- Run FOTA Update → Local update and select the .zip itself, as in update TBox firmware with FOTA.
- After the restart, sign in to Google before anything else.
An Ultra owner who could not sign in on the 26 Dec 2025 build installed the 11 Dec 2025 build and could sign in. Another owner had signed in without trouble on 11 Dec 2025 and lost Google Play after installing 26 Dec 2025 over it without a reset. A TBox Ultra 2 owner at first saw “latest version” in Local update because they had unpacked the archive and pointed the app at the loose files; selecting the zip itself installed the build and sign-in worked.
Factory reset, then sign in first
- Advanced
- Time: 1–2 hours including setup
- Worked for 2 of 4 reports
Warranty warning: this uses developer or engineering access. Follow the undo steps afterwards; some sellers refuse warranty claims on units with debugging left enabled.
- Write down your apps and logins; a reset erases everything.
- Read the recovery note below before you start, so you know the way back for your model.
- Reset: Settings → System → Reset options → Erase all data.
- Connect to Wi-Fi or the SIM and sign in to Google as the very first step, before you install apps, change settings or switch launcher.
One owner’s Google sign-in worked after a factory reset; another got it back after a reset but saw the problem return later. On one late-2025 Ultra build, a helper warned that a reset could brick the box, and the owner’s Ultra indeed did not boot afterwards. They restored it with the official recovery images, signed in immediately and everything worked. A TBox Ultra 2 owner on the latest August 2026 build reset the box and still could not sign in. For when a reset is worth it after an update, see factory reset after a firmware update.
Recovery note: on the TBox Ultra the way back from a box that will not boot is QFIL recovery with the official images, a brick-risk procedure of its own. Read it before you reset, and treat it as the way back rather than part of this fix.
Remove the account and sign in again
- Safe
- Time: 5 minutes
- Worked for 1 of 1 report
- Open Settings → Accounts → Google, select the account and tap Remove account.
- Restart the box.
- Add account → Google and sign in again.
A TBox Ultra owner had already removed the exclamation mark, other apps had internet, and Play Store alone said there was no connection although it had worked before. Signing out and back in fixed it.
Things to try (unverified)
- Test the connection in a browser. Open any website in the box’s browser. If nothing loads, the box is offline and the problem is the SIM or Wi-Fi; see AI box SIM card not working. Suggested to an owner who could not sign in on either a phone hotspot or home Wi-Fi; no result was reported.
- Try a different network. Sign in on another Wi-Fi network, or on your phone’s hotspot from a different carrier. If sign-in works there, the original network blocks something Google needs.
- Clear the cache with 110144. For a build installed over an older one without a reset, Settings → Other → Factory settings → 110144 clears the system cache. Suggested once, not confirmed.
- Modified modem files. One owner traced an unusual sign-in failure to modem files they had replaced. If you have changed anything in the modem, that is the first suspect.
- Check the date and time. Google’s own Play troubleshooting lists a wrong date and time as a cause, and owners with the exclamation mark also reported the box’s clock drifting. Turn on automatic date and time in Settings → System.
- Third-party firmware. One owner whose Play Store would not connect on a modified build went back to the third-party build they had before, and it worked at once. That points to the build, not the account.
If nothing works
Note the box model and firmware date from Settings → About, the exact error text, whether the status bar shows an exclamation mark, whether websites load in the browser, and which networks you tried. Screenshots of the error and of the Wi-Fi details screen help support more than a description.
Carlinkit support ([email protected]) can confirm which build for your model fixes sign-in. If a box on the newest official build, after a reset, cannot sign in on any network while a phone on the same network can, the fault is in the unit’s software and the seller should handle it; start here compares the alternatives.
