Microphone Not Working on Calls? Clear Every Bluetooth Pairing
Callers can't hear you through your AI box? Clear stale Bluetooth pairings, turn off assistant wake phrases, limit mic access. Carlinkit TBox, UX999.
Carlinkit TBox AmbientCarlinkit TBox PlusCarlinkit TBox UHDApplePie UX999 RocketQuick answer
Delete every Bluetooth pairing that involves the box or the car on your phone, on the box and on the head unit, restart the head unit, then pair the phone with the box only. That brought the microphone back for two of the six owners who reported trying it; turning off every assistant wake phrase, and allowing the microphone only for the phone app, each fixed it for two more.
Symptoms
- You hear the caller clearly, but they cannot hear you
- The microphone works for one or two calls after you re-pair, then goes silent again
- The voice assistant on the box still hears your commands while callers hear nothing
- The microphone dies the moment the AutoKit app starts
- Your phone lists several Bluetooth entries for the box and the car (the box's name, AutoKit, the car)
Applies to
- Connection to the car
- CarPlay and Android Auto
- Head units mentioned in reports
- Changan Changan head units; Omoda / Jaecoo Omoda / Jaecoo head units

Why it happens
The box has no microphone of its own. Your voice goes from the car’s microphone through the CarPlay or Android Auto cable into the box, and from there over Bluetooth to your phone. The caller’s voice takes the same path in reverse, which is why one direction can work while the other fails.
Two things break that chain. The first is Bluetooth confusion: your phone may hold separate pairings for the box, the AutoKit app and the car itself, and route the call’s microphone to the wrong one. The second is an app on the box holding the microphone, usually a voice assistant listening for its wake phrase, so the phone app gets nothing.
A quick test tells you which one you have. If the box’s voice assistant hears you but callers do not, the microphone reaches the box and the problem is Bluetooth or an app holding the channel. If nothing on the box hears you, start with the protocol notes under “Things to try”.
Fixes, ranked
Clear every Bluetooth pairing, then pair the phone with the box only
- Safe
- Time: 15 minutes
- Worked for 2 of 6 reports
- Unplug the box so the head unit lets go of it.
- On your phone, open Settings → Bluetooth and forget every entry that belongs to the box or the car: the box’s own name, AutoKit, the car, and anything else that looks related. Watches and headphones can stay.
- In the head unit’s Bluetooth menu, delete every paired phone.
- Plug the box back in, open its Settings → Bluetooth and forget every device listed there.
- Restart the head unit properly. Switching the ignition off and on is not always a restart; on many cars you hold the power or mute button for 10–15 seconds. Your car’s manual has the exact method.
- Pair the phone with the box. Your phone should now show one pairing for the box and nothing else for this car.
- Turn contact sharing back on for that pairing so names appear on the screen, then make a test call.
The owner who first posted this fix on a Carlinkit TBox Ambient said the problem came back twice in a year, after box updates or restarts, and that repeating the clean-up fixed it each time. On a Changan UNI-S, clearing only the phone kept the microphone working for half a day; another UNI-S owner got a lasting fix only after also clearing the head unit and the box and restarting the head unit.
It did not help everyone. A Jaecoo J7 owner, a Hyundai Staria owner whose microphone worked for one or two calls and then dropped, and one other owner whose fix did not hold all reported back without success. If that matches you, continue with Fix 2 and Fix 3, which address a different cause.
Turn off every assistant wake phrase on the box
- Safe
- Time: 10 minutes
- Worked for 2 of 2 reports
- Open the Google app on the box → Settings → Voice → Hey Google & Voice Match and turn the wake phrase off. Menu names vary a little between versions.
- Open your navigation app’s settings, find its voice assistant section and turn off voice activation (the wake phrase). Leave the assistant itself on if you use it with a button.
- Check any other app that answers to a spoken phrase and turn that off too.
- Restart the box and make a test call.
One TBox Ambient owner noticed the clue first: callers could not hear them, yet the assistant still took commands. The “Hey Google” listener was holding the microphone, and calls worked as soon as it was off. A UX999 Rocket owner found that the navigation app had switched its voice activation back on by itself after a settings sync, even though they had turned it off before.
Recheck these switches after app updates. The same setting is behind most crackling and muffled sound reports, so this fix often clears both problems.
Allow the microphone only for the phone app
- Safe
- Time: 10 minutes
- Worked for 2 of 2 reports
- On the box, open Settings → Apps → Permission manager → Microphone.
- Set every app to Don’t allow, except the phone / Bluetooth dialer app.
- Restart the box.
- Make a test call.
Two owners with a TBox Ambient in Changan cars got calls working this way; one also updated to the latest firmware first, after about a month of trying other things. The trade-off is that your assistant and navigation voice search stop hearing you until you allow the microphone for them again.
One of the two reported a few days later that the microphone had dropped out again. If that happens, repeat Fix 1, then this fix, in that order.
Stop the AutoKit app from starting by itself
- Safe
- Time: 5 minutes
- Worked for 1 of 1 report
- Open Settings → Apps → AutoKit (or the app’s own settings) and turn off its automatic start.
- Make and answer calls through the box’s Bluetooth phone app instead.
- Restart the box and test a call.
One owner in the Carlinkit TBox family found that the microphone went silent every time AutoKit launched, for calls and for the navigation app’s voice search alike. With AutoKit no longer starting on its own, calls through the Bluetooth app kept working.
TBox UHD: a different firmware build fixed call audio
- Advanced
- Time: 1–2 hours including setup
- Worked for 1 of 1 report
Warranty warning: this uses developer or engineering access. Follow the undo steps afterwards; some sellers refuse warranty claims on units with debugging left enabled.
- Read third-party firmware for Carlinkit boxes and decide whether you accept the risk.
- Write down your apps and logins.
- Install the build with the box’s local update app, following the FOTA update guide, then factory reset.
- Test incoming and outgoing calls before you install anything else.
One TBox UHD owner whose callers could not hear them on incoming calls moved to a third-party firmware build. After that, callers heard them, calls had no noticeable delay and the steering-wheel answer button worked. That is one report, so treat it as a last resort.
Things to try (unverified)
- Switch the box’s protocol. A moderator noted that moving between CarPlay and Android Auto helps some owners with the Bluetooth dialer, “depending on luck”. The owner who planned to try it never reported back. See switching between CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Pair your phone with the head unit instead of the box. This works on cars that keep their own Bluetooth active while the box is connected, often only in Android Auto mode; route calls through the head unit has the steps. On an Exeed TXL the head unit disabled its Bluetooth as soon as the box connected, so it was not possible there.
- Check calls from the box’s own SIM. A TBox Ambient owner had a working microphone in one car but not in another, even for calls from the box’s SIM; a factory reset did not help. When even SIM calls are silent, the fault is between the box and the head unit, not in your phone’s Bluetooth.
- A firmware update. A TBox Plus owner with an iPhone 17 Pro Max installed the January 2026 build; it did not fix their call audio.
If nothing works
Write down the box model and firmware date (Settings → About), your car’s make, model, year and head unit, the protocol (CarPlay or Android Auto), your phone model, and whether the assistant on the box hears you. Record a short call where the other person says what they hear.
Send that to the seller or to Carlinkit at [email protected] (other brands list their support address on their own sites). If no route through the box gives you working calls, the honest workaround is to take calls on your phone or the car’s own Bluetooth; start here if you are deciding whether a different box suits your car better.
